Hey, my Squids!
Dropping by to share a work in progress of Leira with red hair. As you know, Leira has had a crazy past that is unfolding in the webcomic as we speak. However, something you might not have known, is that Leira has changed her hair color multiple times, usually as a way to “erase the past.” I thought it would be fun to draw some of these.
Leira was born with brownish/blonde hair that lightened to a golden blonde early in her life. After her mother left and she won emancipation from her father, she experimented with hair colors like pink, blue, and green, eventually just dyeing it black. From late adolescence until her early 20s, she kept her hair long and black, both to fit in with the heavy metal look people associated her with and also as a form of protest against her family and their abandonment of her.
After she left the band and started her career as a zoologist, the black hair gave way to a shorter red look, which she wore for years until she chopped it short and went blonde again (which was a year and change before our story starts).
So, here’s a work in progress drawing of a roughly 25 year old Leira with red hair. At this point in her life, she’s a junior zoologist, able to go out in the field from time to time but still mostly working desk and research duty. I hope you like it.
