Hey, my Squids!
Stopping in with some more work in progress for page 21 of Chapter 3! This time I finished the bottom panel.
I added some additional dialogue and changed Leira’s expression a little bit in this last panel because I didn’t want to make her too angry. My point with this part of the story is to establish a few things about both of these characters and her mom: that Saul has historically had to reassure her or comfort her because of the letters and that Leira, despite hating the fact that her mom hasn’t been there for a decade and a half, still longs to see her. I want her response to be less angry and more reflective; that she doesn’t have the loving family Saul does and, though we will see at some point, that family does love her, it’s not “hers.” This is a very isolating feeling and one that eats at our heroine in the worst way. She doesn’t want this… she just wants her mom.
