Taliah Chapter 3: Moon Walkers Work in Progress Page 21 #2 (And some Page 20)

Hey, my Squids!

Dropping in with some work in progress of page 21 for Chapter 3. Our previous page, we finally see the letter that Leira’s mom sent to her… one where she calls herself Leira’s “#1 Fan”. Since I completed that page in one sitting, I didn’t have much WIP to talk about with it, so I’ll mention some of it briefly here!

For page 20, it was a quick page art wise, the main focus being the letter. Leira’s mom addresses herself as “Douto à Oneo Tehkrana Kaura.” I’ve had a few Abaroguian lessons featured on the patreon thus far but I’ll give a quick one here. Sentence structure wise, Abaroguain is a mix of English, Spanish, and Japanese. They don’t use apostrophes, so the character “à” gives ownership. “Douto” means you and “Oneo” is one, so the first part of the sentence is effectively “Your One.” Tehkrana means fan. “Kaura” means from and since it’s a particle, it goes at the end of the sentence. You’ll also notice Leira’s address! The number 518 is actually just my birthday, May 18th. “Vivaparto” means apartment or, more specifically, a type of dwelling that is attached to others. So sometimes vivaparto can be used for row houses.

Now, for page 21, you’ll notice I have The Sims for the second panel. I wanted to draw Leira’s apartment background but I also wanted placement for her and Saul. In the game, I’ve actually made Leira (I promise she had clothes on at some point but my mods broke and now the clothing mods I used won’t work anymore and I haven’t bothered to fix them) but the guy isn’t Saul… he’s another… future character and doesn’t look like that anymore, either. You’ll meet him soon enough.

We’re getting to the end of this scene. I’ve been feeling very panicky drawing these panels. I know the story, I know what happens, I know why, and I still panic as if it’s the first time I’ve seen this. It doesn’t make it hurt any less.

I hope you like knowing what happens behind the scenes. Take care, for now.
