Hey, my Squids. I’m stopping by to drop some work in progress off for pages 17 through 24. I don’t know how many of these pages will be released for June but there will be at least a few of them.
This moment is bittersweet. This is the last time that Leira sees Saul, as he goes missing shortly after. When I originally created this story, Saul was a nameless coworker who Leira only knew from work, only bumped into a few times for research tips, and never talked to outside of that. Then one day I thought it would mean more if she was friends with him. Over time, thinking about that friendship led into him being a romantic interest and then one day he became what he is today: a fully realized character with a backstory, family, history. That history is entwined with Leira’s. It’s fundamental to her change as a person and the story that unfolds.
But the problem is that I now have a character who we never get to see again outside of flashbacks… who has an undeniable chemistry with Leira and who could have added so much to the overall tale. Knowing he’s gone hurts more than I can describe. So drawing this scene, where the two have dinner, make out and become intimate is difficult… because I know I’ve made Leira’s life a living hell in pursuit of a story.
