Hey, my Squids!
Recently, I showed off both Leira Orta and Micah Ido’s redesigns. While Leira’s is revealed in the coming pages of Chapter 2: Elusive Star, Micah’s will show up in a later chapter. Alongside Micah, Xolani Abraham also gets a redesign, fresh with a different color scheme to better reflect the direction of the comic, art, and myself as an artist. This is that redesign.
Xolani Abraham is a Blade of Oa, one of the Sworn Blades, and is after Leira at the beginning of Taliah. Xolani’s original design was created back when Taliah was just the idea revolving around Xolani and Micah going on adventures as a paladin and swordswoman. Xolani ended up having a couple redesigns after that until I landed on one that mirrored the strength and flexibility of Olympic gymnasts. But, just like with Micah, some of my original design language doesn’t adequately reflect Xolani’s personality. She’s regale, commanding, but also empathetic and easy to confide in. I wanted to give her an outfit that better shows that side of her.
I also wanted to redesign her weapons and shield, with a better way to display how she acquires them when in combat.
While I don’t have a specific chapter that Xolani dons the new look, it’s not far in the future. I have several drawings to do including new character portraits, character cards, and more. But, do you like the new look?
